Ronald Koeman branded his new signing, Charlie Austin

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman branded his new signing, Charlie Austin, as amazing after the striker scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Manchester United.

The striker had just completed a move from QPR for around £ 4 million. He was valued much more only 12 months ago, but his contractual situation meant that Southampton were able to get him for much less than his value of around £ 15 million. Austin was a major reason in QPR believing that they could avoid relegation. His goals earned him a spot in the England national team for a brief period.

The striker clearly has the ability to score goals and it was demonstrated when he came off the bench to make his debut and score against United.Koeman had a brilliant first season at Southampton, but he is starting to get accustomed to life at a mid-table club. The club has been going through vast inconsistencies in terms of results and this has primarily been down to lack of goals. However, the win over United now represents the third consecutive success for the club in the league. It sees them jump above Stoke City to the eighth spot in the table.

"That's why we signed the player. Of course it's an amazing feeling for him and for the team that he scored the winner. He did a great job like everybody in the team.We had very good organisation on the pitch, we made it very difficult for United and had good pressing from the three players in front.Maybe it was not at that level offensive-wise because in the first half we had to create more chances than we did, but the whole team performance was good enough to win today," said Koeman after the game.
