Lukaku scored for the first time in the league since his return from injury against Aston Villa in the penultimate fixture for Chelsea. He came off the bench during the half-time break in the place of young defender Trevor Chalobah with the scoreline at 1-1 after a Jorginho spot kick wiped out the opening goal of the game from Reece James (own goal) off the cross from Villa left-back Matt Targett.

Lukaku scored the second Chelsea goal at the expense of Villa on 56 minutes with the assist for the goal coming from Callum Hudson-Odoi. Winger Hudson-Odoi was also the player brought down as Chelsea scored the equaliserthrough a Jorginho penalty on 34 minutes and six minutes after the opener. Jorginhofinished the job in added time of the second half through Jorginho who sealed his brace from the spot after the impressive Lukaku was fouled by EzriKonsa in the Villa box.

Belgian all-time leading goalscorerLukaku made it two goals in as many league games when he scored the first goal of the Premier League game between hosts Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion. His goal came off a corner kick taken by England international Mason Mount as he overpowered Brighton striker Neal Maupay fairly to score the Chelsea goal as revealed by VAR. Brighton sealed a good result thanks to the late goal from their substitute, Danny Welbeck. The former Sunderland and Watford attacker had come on for the final ten minutes of the game and he was able to rescue his team from defeat.
