Craig Burley urges Christian Pulisic to reconsider his Chelsea position

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has said that Christian Pulisic may have to reconsider his Chelsea future next summer, should his position not improve under manager Frank Lampard. The United States international was signed by the Blues from Borussia Dortmund in January but he only joined them during the summer after spending the second half of the previous season on loan with the Bundesliga outfit.

It was initially anticipated that Pulisic would become the main orchestrator of the Blues attack but that has, however, not been the case with the breakthrough of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham at the club. As a result, the former Dortmund man has found himself on the bench more often than not and he has made just one appearance since the last international break.

Speaking on ESPN FC, Burley said that Pulisic should not consider a winter departure from the Blues but may have to assess his situation next summer, if he continues to struggle for gametime under Lampard, he told: “No, no [Pulisic should not leave in January]. I think come the end of the year, the season, you sit back and take stock when the transfer bans have all been sorted out, when the manager’s future is crystal clear. So I would not jump to any hasty January conclusions, it’s very, very early. But the signs at the moment are it’s going to be tough.”

Pulisic featured during the League Cup third round tie against Grimsby Town where the Blues secured a comfortable 7-1 triumph. He could, however, drop to the bench for the weekend league game against Brighton & Hove Albion, considering Lampard has recently stuck with Mount and Willian as the attacking options behind Tammy Abraham. Pulisic will still be hoping to be involved after failing to feature from the bench during the past two league games.
