Former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou says that his former club will win the Premier League if top scorer Diego Costa keeps firing in the goals.

Costa has scored ten Premier League goals already after 13 weeks. The Spaniard is joint top scorer in the league with Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

The Ivorian believes Costa’s consistency is key to Antonio Conte’s men lifting the title after starting the games so far very well. Chelsea top the current standings with Liverpool following closely with a point behind.

“Diego Costa did well already under Mourinho but he didn’t quite have the same quality last year as he has shown this year. He needed new motivation and that is what Conte brought to him,” Kalou told Goal.

The Champions League winner with the Blues boldly claimed that if Costa ended the league as the highest goal scorer, Chelsea would win the league.

“If Diego Costa is top scorer then they will win the league; it works the other way around as well. The two go together. Eden [Hazard] is a great player to; he can do anything with the ball,” Kalou added.

Kalou said both stars are the ones carrying the team. He praised the character in the team as they turned their last season’s misfortune very quickly.

“This team has done something difficult – come back from last season where they had a bad time and shown a winning character. I am sure that they have the chances to win it,” Kalou added.

Chelsea are set to face another stern test when they play Manchester City on Saturday. Chelsea gave Tottenham Hotspur their first loss of the season in the Premier League, and they would want to continue their top form against the Sky Blues.
