Guardiola delighted with Sergio Aguero

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has expressed his delight over the performance of Sergio Aguero in the 3-1 triumph over Arsenal.

The Citizens were on the wrong side of a shock 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United earlier in the week but they managed to make amends by beating the Gunners with Aguero starring with a 10th Premier League hat-trick.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola was pleased with the showing of Aguero, who managed to score for the fourth successive match across all competitions, he told Sky Sports: “Everybody knows about his [Aguero's] goals. It's important how you fight, so I think he is incredible. I know it is not for his body to run like Gabriel [Jesus] or Bernardo [Silva] or the other ones, but he tried to do absolutely everything and that for the team will never be a problem for us. Of course he scores a lot of goals and in that way it is important.”

After losing against Newcastle, the Citizens dropped five points behind Liverpool on the table and they could not afford to suffer another successive setback. The Gunners looked competitive for the opening 40 minutes where they managed to hold onto a 1-1 scoreline but from thereafter, the Citizens upped the ante and dominated the proceedings before sealing a comfortable 3-1 triumph.

With the result, the Mancunian giants have moved within two points off Jurgen Klopp’s side but the Reds can extend the gap once more, should they get the better of West Ham United at the London Stadium on Monday night. The Citizens return to league action against Everton on Wednesday night with the Premier League deciding to prepone the fixture based on the League Cup final later in the month. The reigning champions would have played an additional match compared to the Reds when they head for their weekend clash against Chelsea.
